Labor ipse voluptas

JOURNEYS IN ARTISTRY:
A (love) letter from the editor.

During my two-decade career in media, I’ve interviewed some remarkable humans. High-achievers at the top of their game.

The interviewees I find most intriguing tend to be those engaged in making something of substance — something extraordinary. Whether chefs or shoemakers, artists, tailors, designers, metalworkers, musicians, watchmakers, vignerons or ceramicists, they generally have one thing in common:

They’re people who love what they do, who take immense pride in what they make, what they’re bringing into the world. They’re people for whom the work is its own reward.

Similarly, this digital publication is a labour of love. A passion project, about passion projects. Its central mission is to tell the stories of dedicated creators, characters making outstanding stuff. To me, putting those articles together is incredibly fulfilling. Doing the work is a pleasure: Labor ipse voluptas, as the Romans might’ve put it.

I hope you’ll find these people and their tales as fascinating and inspiring as I have. Here’s to loving what you do.
